Only take few hours I came to conclusions that Edensor was far below my expectation.Compare to LP, Edensor did not have strong character. The flow of building the conflict sound too harsh, too fast. In LP Andrea has capability to bring the reader up and down emotionally through beautiful words, careful sentences and so poetic. Even LP -as Andrea admitted only his memoir but it did have details that enrich the story.
I read Edensor after the first tetra-logy of Andrea Hirata Laskar Pelangi (LP). I smelt something missing here, something that supposed to explain many things about his journey.I do love the way he explain his admire to Weh but then I can not find any better than that. Ah Ling -the girl that he's been chasing through internet googling was naive indeed but so touching. I felt the same way when you only love the one like Arai did.Hope the last tetra-logy Maryamah Karpov will answer all my curiosity.

But no, you will keep up, just because the protagonist's madness for life, which believe me, will rub on to you too.A couple of things stood out.Hirata's integrity: Travel literature is often plagued by authors who have been there done that and as a result lose the integrity of their stories.
Their tone, as much as they can't help it, becomes arrogant. The journey of the two village boys from Belitung shame most travel literature which have lost track of their modesty. Ikal is irresistible, for me, simply because he is a humble narrator.The motif of travelling: the usual servings of self-discovery, spiritualism, survival, are all here compacted inside 150 pages (the last half of the book), but Ikal's motivation is driven by the need to find the mythical 'A Ling', the one that got away, Edensor personified.But the book for me contains sentimental value. Any backpacker can relate straight away.
This book resonates for travellers and would be travellers because of that unwritten backpacker code of ethics: respect and storytelling. No doubt, this is the Indonesian 'On the Road' and will spark a generation of Indonesian youths conquering Europe all the way to Africa, and back again. The book was written in separated mosaicsat first it felt like separated but in the end we will learn that all those mosaics were connected in a certain way. But it still had the sense of comedy and irony like the previous books.

I envy him, but then it hit me that we dont need to envy other people because God's prepared something awesome for each and everyone of us, we just have to open our eyes and seize every opportunities handed to us.I dont want to write too much because I dont want to give anything away.

He promised her that he’d write a book for her someday. This was because for him and his school friends, a book was the most valuable thing they could think of.Andrea told a story that illustrated this fact. When royalties flowed in for him he decided to give his community a library. He spent a lot of money on books. He left the village headman in charge of administering the library. However, when he came back several months later, all the books were gone. People loved the books, but they had no concept of how a lending library functioned.“Some of them could not even read, but they just loved to have a book, an object of great value and importance, in their homes.
We will restock the library with books and this time it will be run by our own administration,” he laughed.Andrea told this story as we sat in the coffee shop adjoining a Gold Coast City Library, one of 12 scattered around the city.
